Cleaning Tips

Some regular cleaning and maintenance of your mount can preserve the life and natural look of your mount.

Avoid placing mounts in direct sunlight, near areas of intense heat such as fireplaces or near areas where it is extremely humid such as pool rooms. Grease and tobacco smoke will also quickly discolor mounts.

Birds: NEVER use a vacuum; it could break the feathers. Do not use a damp cloth; moisture will ruin it. Always use a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster and lightly dust the bird.

Fish: Use a damp cloth to wipe away any dust off the fish.

Mammals: Using a damp rag, rub the mount with the hair not against it. Once completely wiped down, brush the hair to make it lay naturally. Feather dusters may be used on mount to remove dust if necessary. Do not use a vacuum.

Antlers: WD40 sprayed on a rag cleans antlers nicely. Always wipe antlers throughly with a clean dry rag after cleaning to remove all WD40 excess. This should be done once a year.

Eyes: Using a damp cotton swab, lightly clean the eyes.

Hide rugs or upholstered furniture: Fine bristel vacuum attachments may be used to vacuum the hide. Vacuum with the hair, not against it. Warm soapy water can be used to wipe away any dust or debris. Again, wipe with the hair, never against it. Avoid getting the hide saturated. Brushing the hide is also a good way to remove dirt.
